The word Taan, meaning to stretch, holds within it a world of creation—a tension that births form and purpose. This room divider reimagines the meditative rhythm of the loom, where warp and weft intertwine. It draws inspiration from moments of watching my mother’s kaarigars stretch fabric taut on wooden frames, preparing it for intricate hand embroidery—a transformative act where potential turns into craft.
Featuring handwoven fabrics from the indigenous loin loom of Nagaland, the divider incorporates raised embroidery that begs exploration through touch. The cane elements flow like threads unbound, wrapping elegantly around carved wooden dowels—a homage to the collective spirit of Nagaland, where making is always a shared act.
